Notes, tips and advice from the Organisers

Weather forecast for Sunday is a sunny 25C with light winds. If correct, then these should be ideal cycling conditions. It's looking like a day for sun-cream rather than mud-guards and waterproofs.

We have decided to include additional water stations in Long Crendon and Cublington Hill for our 100km Sportive riders. This is midway between Marsh Gibbon and Buckinghamshire Railway Centre so should allow everyone to remain well hydrated as the day warms up.

Venue

Furze Down School, Verney Rd, Winslow, Buckingham MK18 3BL are our hosts for the day.

Please note Furze Lane Railway Bridge is closed so access to venue is via Verney Road only. 
  • ​Left luggage / toilets – These are situated inside the school gymnasium complex and entered via the Registration Tent.
  • Food & drink.  A coffee stall, burger bar & ice cream van plus Furze Down School Cake stall.
  • Concessions Village - includes Furze Down Young Enterprise Group, Buckinghamshire MIND and Erdinger offering free non-alcoholic beer to finishing Riders (while stocks last).
  • Bike Repairs - Corley Cycles will be at the Furze Down School site and Blue Horse Bikes at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (Quainton)
  • First Aid - ALR are providing a medical assistant at Furze Down School and a mobile unit at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (Quainton)
A big thank you our Winslow Town Council, East West Rail Alliance together with HS2 for assistance with logistics on the day and during the  planning of our event.

Parking

To ensure safety of all participant ALL cars are to be parked in the free dedicated parking area opposite the school entrance. This will be manned by our support team to ensure cars are parked safely and to give any further directions. Dedicated Disabled Parking  will be available nearest to the Car Park Entrance.

Registration

Opens at 7:30 for Sportive Rides and 9:30 for Leisure Rides

Leisure Ride Registration

Online registration will remain open until 11am on the day of the event.
Riders can also pay by card/cash at the registration desk from ​10:00 on the day.
All riders will be sent an email with venue info and parking details on 4th July.

New entrants will be sent the email when they register if after the 4th July.

All Leisure riders arriving at the venue will be handed a Route map leaflet once their registration and payment status is confirmed at the Check-in Desk. Please retain your email receipt for proof of entry to the attractions.

Sportive Ride Preparation and Registration

Online registration will only remain open until 11am on the day.
This is the ONLY way to register for a Sportive ride.
Advice for riders attempting the Dreams Century 100-mile Sportive
This distance can be a significant challenge for most cyclists and requires a high level of fitness and stamina. Hopefully, participants will have been training to prepare for this.
1. Don't worry about the 12:00 qualification deadline for completing the 100km loop. That's for guidance only and won't be strictly enforced.
2. There is no obligation to continue with the 60km loop if you initially expressed an interest in doing the full 100-miles. See how you feel on the day. You will still be credited for completing 100km.
3. Try to arrive early so that you can set off promptly at 08:00.
4. You must record a time for the 100km loop before setting out on the 60km loop.
5. Only the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre refreshment stop will be open on the 60km loop.
6. We have created a map which includes main checkpoints along the 100-mile route. Plotaroute allows you to enter an average speed and determine target arrival times at each checkpoint. Simply edit the route and select 'Timer' followed by 'Directions'. You can also press 'Print to generate a pdf file with map and all ETAs. Navigation
Nowadays, many Sportive riders have a Garmin or similar GPS navigation device. We have provided direct links to Garmin Connect and gpx file download. Other file formats can be generated through the plotaroute link. There will also be clear directional arrow signs for everyone to follow along all routes.

There are also mobile phone apps available for those that don't use a GPS cycle computer. We've been told that Komoot works well as it includes voice navigation and ride tracking.

Timings for Sportive Rides

Timing
We do offer chip timing on our Sportive rides. However, capturing a ride on a personal GPS device will probably be more accurate if it's set to pause recording when stationary at refreshment stops.
